Now that Google’s new Pixel 6 phones are shipping to users, we’re starting to see a few reports about potential Pixel 6 screen problems. Most notable, many owners with the bigger Pixel 6 Pro see a green light flickering, even when the screen is off.

Thankfully, Google has already acknowledged the problem, calling it a “residual light” software issue, and promised a fix is coming in December.

According to 9to5Google, several users on Reddit noticed problems with the screen and were quick to report the findings. For example, some owners complained about green tints near the top of the screen when the brightness is low, while others see a weird “flickering” when the screen is off. In addition, when users briefly tap the power button but not hard enough to turn on the display, they get a big flickering of green light that comes and goes.

With every new phone release, there’s bound to be an issue or two. However, if possible, Google’s always quick to release updates, and that’s the exact situation we have here.

As we said above, Google already confirmed the problem in a newly released support document and said it would be fixed in the December software update. Unfortunately, this means the day-one November update won’t solve the problem out of the box. However, within the first week of December, users can expect a solution to this problem.

For now, Google says, “To avoid seeing this, when the power is off, do not cycle the power button. When you want to use the phone, hold the power button down long enough to turn it on.” Google added that it’s not “an issue with the phone hardware,” suggesting they’re well aware of this glitch and will be able to fix it through software.

We’ll keep an eye out for any additional potential Pixel 6 problems, but for now, just hang tight for the next update.
