#Madelyn Cline’s 2024 Met Gala Dress Is Inspired By Tommy Hilfiger’s Classic White Button-Down Shirt

For her second appearance at the Met Gala, Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline stuns in a perfectly tailored Tommy Hilfiger gown based on the brand’s staple: the button-up shirt.

Cline attended the gala alongside K-pop group Stray Kids, GQ Global Editorial Director Will Welch and, of course, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger.

Cline and Hilfiger opted for a straightforward approach to “The Garden of Time” dress code. With shades of white and cream, scattered rosettes and a full skirt, Cline’s look contrasts the streamlined Stella McCartney black and silver dress she wore last year at her 2023 Met Gala debut.

As for her voluminous blowout, hairstylist Marc Mena used the viral Wavytalk’s 5-in-1 Curling Wand Set. He started off with the thermal brush attachment to achieve that effortless ’90s look, and then added extra movement with various-sized barrels throughout her long locks.

The Revlon Global Brand Ambassador kept it fresh and glowy with the brand’s Illuminance Serum Tint in Light Tan and Tan Sand, Skinlights Prismatic Highlighter in Twilight Gleam and Super Lustrous Lipstick in Bare It All.

Cline accessorizes with a mini Tommy Hilfiger clutch from eBay that the designer upcycled with fabric from her dress, and her two tennis necklaces and dainty drop earrings are also from eBay.

This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, which dovetails nicely with the latest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. The Andrew Bolton-curated show spotlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. The exhibit’s coffee table book will be released on June 18.
