“Where the Cast is Today”
Some may only remember from The Wolverine the prowess of lead actor Hugh Jackman, who became well-remembered and popular for his portrayal of the beloved comic book character. Yet another unique aspect of the movie is that it featured an international cast, having Asian-American, Japanese, Dutch, and Russian actors in its lead roles. Many cast members have gone on to have very successful careers, not just Jackman, even if they did not continue acting in Hollywood. With that said, here is where the cast is today.
7 Tao Okamoto
Japanese actress Tao Okamoto charmed viewers when her character busted out her best knife-throwing and martial arts moves in The Wolverine, but she has some pretty high-profile credits to her name since. Even before appearing in the movie, she had an established career as a model, shooting for luxury companies like Saint Laurent, Chanel, and Miu Miu, among others. In 2015, she made a guest appearance on the television series Hannibal for four episodes, then, a year later, appeared in Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice. She also guest-starred on HBO’s Westworld.
6 Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman may have become famous worldwide due to his role as the Logan/Wolverine, but he has proven again and again that he is a capable actor. He has been active on Broadway stages in the 2022 revival of The Music Man at the Winter Garden Theater. Directly after The Wolverine, he appeared in Les Misérables in the lead role of Jean Valjean and has recently received acclaim for his role in The Greatest Showman. Jackman’s schedule may now be busy with the Broadway show, but he can be heard on the animated sitcom Human Resources on Netflix.
5 Rila Fukushima
Rila Fukushima is similar to Okamoto in the vein that she, too, was a fashion model turned actress. Fukushima also managed to smoothly transition into more Hollywood roles after her appearance in The Wolverine, securing some popular television show roles when they first aired live. She appeared on Arrow for 16 episodes, then appeared on an episode of Game of Thrones. When it comes to her movie credits, she can be seen in Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost in the Shell, as well as Annette, which features Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
4 Hiroyuki Sanada
Hiroyuki Sanada is a familiar face in the Japanese entertainment world, and, as of recent years, has become familiar to the Western world as well. He initially made his mark in samurai movies in the 1970s and 1980s, but later transitioned into more contemporary roles. After appearing in The Wolverine in 2013, he would have roles in Avengers: Endgame, Mortal Kombat, Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, and, according to Collider, will be seen in John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023. Like Okamoto, Sanada also made a guest appearance on Westworld for four episodes.
3 Svetlana Khodchenkova
Svetlana Khodchenkova took over the role of Viper for The Wolverine, serving as one of the movie’s antagonists. She had made her film debut in the 2003 movie Bless the Woman, which established her popularity in the Russian film scene at the time. Following her appearance in The Wolverine, she largely continued to act in Russian movies, many of which have gained quite a bit of acclaim. She stars in 2022’s It’s Not Her Name, which was initially introduced at the Cannes Film Festival.
2 Brian Tee
Since appearing in The Wolverine, Japanese-American actor Brian Tee has been in both 2015’s Jurassic World and 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. As a proficient Korean speaker — Tee’s mother is South Korean — he also had a leading role in the Korean action movie No Tears for the Dead. This film was directed by Lee Jeong-beom. Tee also may be recognized for a series of roles he played on popular television shows for the past decade, as he has landed credits in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chicago Med, Lucifer, and Chicago Fire.
1 Will Yun Lee
Asian-American actor Will Yun Lee is best known for his television roles post-The Wolverine. Some of his recent television credits include Hawaii Five-0, True Blood, Falling Water, and The Good Doctor. He has had some movie work after appearing in The Wolverine, but many of the films have not been blockbusters. The few that have been, however, include Melissa McCarthy’s Spy, Dwayne Johnson’s Spy, and Rampage.
