#Thrice Upon A Time To Release in January 2021

A new trailer for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time revealed that the movie will be released on January 21, 2021. The movie was previously meant to premiere on June 27, 2020 but was postponed in April due to COVID-19.

The new trailer shows off a series of striking imagery and action scenes, set to the tune of a more subdued version of Evangelion’s “Peaceful Times” track. Studio Khara previously streamed the first 10 minutes of the movie in July as part of the Japan Expo event in Paris.

Studio Khara announced back in March 2019 that Evangelion: 3.0+1.0’s dialogue recording had begun, while protagonist Shinji Ikari’s seiyuu, Megumi Ogata, revealed in February 2020 that recording was almost finished. The studio also confirmed earlier this month that the movie will not be six hours long.

The fourth installment of the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series was initially titled Shin Evangelion Gekijou-ban back in 2012. It was meant to open in 2013 at the time.

The first three movies, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo were released in 2007, 2009, and 2012 respectively. The movies are a retelling of the 1995 Neon Genesis Evangelion series, which is currently streaming on Netflix along with the Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion movies.
