The official website of the upcoming pirate adventure »One Piece Odyssey« recently revealed new information regarding gameplay and characters.

Gameplay reminiscent of Pokémon

As already known, the latest console offshoot from the pirate cosmos relies on turn-based battles. The latest screenshots now reveal that these are in the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors system occur. You have to find out your opponent’s weaknesses and play to your own strengths. Fans and connoisseurs of Pokémon Games should be very familiar with this gameplay.

Now it has also been revealed that you can fight with up to four Straw Hat Pirates at the same time (see screenshot above). In the game there is also the possibility to bundle his attacks, so-called “Kizuna Arts”, which gives the gameplay another pinch of tactics. In addition to the cooperative attacks, there are also small combat snippets (“Dramatic Scenes”), mini cutscenes that are intended to capture the look and feel of the series.

A straw hat rarely comes alone

Furthermore, it was announced that not only Luffy but all members of the straw hat gang were playable. This confirmed the official twitter account of the game. The various devil fruit abilities of the individual team members are needed especially for exploring the environment and the dungeons included in the game. Changing the characters should provide more variety and long-term fun.

The website also featured two more characters created specifically for »One Piece Odyssey” developed. There is the mysterious Lim, who despises pirates, and the tourist guide Adio (see screenshots).

Final release date is yet to be announced

When we »One Piece Odyssey« allowed to play on our home consoles is not yet known. It is certain that the game will be released later this year for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and the PC. The last console offshoot »One Piece World Seeker« (2019) was created in the studio Ganbarion. The new offspring of the pirate saga is now being created again at Bandai Namco. Eiichiro Oda contributed the story himself.
