The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim will star actor Brian Cox as protagonist and King of Rohan Helm Hammerhand, a report from Deadline has revealed. Additionally, Miranda Otto, who played Hammerhand’s descendant Eowyn in the second and third The Lord of the Rings live-action films, is reprising her role and will narrate the upcoming anime movie.

Multiple other cast members were also revealed. Gaia Wise is playing Hammerhand’s daughter Hera, while Luke Pasqualino is the Dunlending antagonist Wulf. Other names include Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.

The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim is directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Blade Runner: Black Lotus co-director, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) with a screenplay from Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. The screenplay is based on a story by The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance showrunners Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Sola Entertainment is producing the show. It will be released worldwide on April 12, 2024.

Deadline describes the movie’s premise as such:

A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
