#Netflix Reveals Staff And Cast For Thermae Romae Novae Anime

Netflix unveiled a key visual and the staff working on the upcoming Thermae Romae Novae anime. The anime will be based off the Thermae Romae manga by Mari Yamazaki, and will also feature new stories written by Yamazaki. The series is slated to premiere on Netflix this year.

The series will be directed by Tetsuya Tatamitani (Africa Salaryman) at NAZ, with Yūichirō Momose (Africa Salaryman, So I’m a Spider, So What?) writing the anime’s scripts. 

Variety describes the upcoming anime as:

Kicking off at the height of the Roman Empire, Thermae Romae Novae is a time-traveling comedy which follows Roman bath designer Lucius who is unwittingly thrust through time to modern day Japan, where he capitalizes on his unique situation by… studying 21st century Japanese bath culture.

Yamazaki first launched the manga in 2008 and ended its run in March 2013, with two live-action film adaptations that screened in 2012 and 2014 respectively. A three-episode anime aired in 2012 and was produced by DLE. Yen Press publishes the manga in North America while Discotek holds the anime’s license for North America. Crunchyroll streamed the three-episode series in June 2019.
