#The Laughing Salesman Hits the Stage in Tokyo in Summer of 2021

Moguro Fukuzo looms over a terrified potential client in a scene from the 2017 The Laughing Salesman TV anime.

You can't keep a good salesman down, and although last year's previous attempt to produce a stage play adaptation based on Fujiko A. Fujio's dark comedy / psychological thriller manga, The Laughing Salesman, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the original crew and a mostly new cast are heading to the stage in Tokyo for a new production in the Summer of 2021.

A key visual for the upcoming The Laughing Salesman stage play, featuring actor Ryuji Sato in full costume and makeup as the titular antagonist, Moguro Fukuzo, who is smiling and tipping his hat while the rest of the cast reacts to his presence with expressions of comical horror and dismay. In the background, a huge, shadowy apparition of Saito points an accusing finger at the audience.

The Laughing Salesman THE STAGE is directed by Kensaku Kobayashi, written by Yusuke Shiratori (Stokes/Park), and stars actor Ryuji Sato in the titular role as Moguro Fukuzo. The play also stars Shouta Matsuda, Hiroki Ishibashi, Koichiro Tomioka, Ikuko Sawada, Yoshihiro Minami, Masaki Ikemura, Satoshi Fujimura, Ryota Kakegawa, Sayaka Itō, and Mayu Tsuyuzume.

The Laughing Salesman THE STAGE is scheduled to run from March 26 – April 11, 2021, at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball venue in Tokyo, Japan. Tickets to the show cost 8500 yen ($81.90 US) including tax.
