#The 10 best streaming TV shows to tune into for music

Whether it’s classic Donna Summer tracks on “Pose,” ’80s gems from the Police and Cyndi Lauper on “Stranger Things,” or “Bridgerton” putting a classical spin on Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish, music plays a key role in setting the scenes on our favorite TV shows.

Here, we pick the top 10 shows with the best small screen soundtracks — all pumping courtesy of a streaming platform near you.

The groundbreaking FX drama has always had us living for the music. The fiercest ballroom tracks and diva classics by the likes of Diana Ross, Jody Watley and Mariah Carey are on point for LGBTQ culture and the era  — from 1987 to 1994. Much of Season 2 revolved around Madonna’s 1990 strike-a-poser “Vogue,” while last week’s episode gave us a double dose of Donna Summer with “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Once Upon a Time” that had us really working it.

The HBO series, which is expected to return for its fifth and final season later this year, always hits just the right notes with its music. Reflecting the black girl magic of its star and creator Issa Rae, last season gave us everything from Megan Thee Stallion (“Hood Rat S–t”) to a hella-throwback with Mya’s “Case of the Ex.”

The Emmy-winning Hulu series starring Elisabeth Moss has been on fire with the music in Season 4, which premiered last month. Already they’ve rocked Aretha Franklin’s “I Say a Little Prayer,” David Bowie’s “Suffragette City” and, yes, Soft Cell’s ’80s classic “Tainted Love.” Does it get any better than that?

Speaking of ’80s music feels, no series has done that better than this Netflix hit. (Although let’s give an honorable mention to ABC’s “mixed-ish.”) But all you have to do is look at the “Stranger Things” soundtrack, featuring Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and the Police’s “Every Breath You Take,” and you’re completely taken.

Can anything be better than when the Emmy-winning star of the show can also create a musical moment? Not so much. But that’s exactly what happened when Zendaya, starring as Rue in HBO’s “Euphoria,” teamed up with electronic artist Labrinth to bring the drama to the season finale in 2019 with “All For Us.”

Any show that can make us get into classical music twists on Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next,” Billie Eilish’s “bad guy” and even Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” deserves an Emmy to us. It’s still early for this Netflix hit, but the music game might be just enough to help us forget that Regé-Jean Page left the show for Season 2. Well, almost.

This HBO drama about skater girls boarding through New York City returns for its second season next month, and if there can be one single moment as great as A$AP Rocky’s “F–kin’ Problems” rocking in the series premiere last year, we’ll be happy.

This Netflix series about three Mexican-American cousins represents for the culture as much for its music as its message. There is plenty of authentic Latinx representation, including Y La Bamba and La Misa Negra.

The ’70s-based Amazon Prime show starring Al Pacino brought some Philly soul to the proceedings with tracks like the Stylistics’ “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”
