#Slack is not as private as you think

“Slack is not as private as you think”

Those private little side conversations you have on Slack may not be as private as you thought.

TikTok user Dero (@dandydemon) uploaded a short clip explaining the moment she discovered that some of the channels created in the corporate messaging app were available to the entire company.

“If you work for a moderately sized company — like midsize to large-sized company — and you use Slack, go ahead and search your name on Slack,” she told users in the video, which has been viewed over 447,000 times.

Dero, who didn’t name the company or specify what she does for work, says you’d be surprised at what channels are public and can be viewed by anyone.

According to Dero, she searched her name on Slack after she had spoken at a large meeting — and couldn’t believe what she saw.

“I saw notes from when I was interviewing,” she recalled, saying she also found out she was a “running joke” in a group chat.

“So it may be valuable to look that up,” she added.

In a follow-up video, the TikToker said she found a chat where a supervisor and her staff were talking about her social life outside work.

@dandydemon If you do this and anything comes up, pLEASE stitch lol. Thankfully, it wasn’t anything too terrible but I had never directly spoken to anyone in that group chat so it was quite the shocker #slack

“Anyway, moral of the story, it is worth searching your name on Slack just for the morbid curiosity of it,” she said.

The revelations shocked some users, who rethought their entire Slack existence. Some said they couldn’t wait to search, while others said they’re better off not knowing what happens behind closed doors.

“No I don’t want to ruin my nice job for myself,” one user wrote.

“I think Imma leave that one left unsearched. Makes me anxious even thinking about it,” agreed another.

Others were rushing to get to their laptops.

“I literally said ‘OH NO’ out loud as soon as you said ‘search,’” a user said, with another adding, “damn I wish I had known this lollll.”
