#Scott Pilgrim Anime In Development With Netflix, UCP, and Science Saru Involved

Netflix and UCP are developing an anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

The report notes that a series has not been ordered yet, but should the show go ahead, Science SARU will serve as the animation production company with Eunyoung Choi (Japan Sinks 2020) as producer and Abel Gongora (Star Wars: Visions “T0-B1”) as director. Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark? 2019) would serve as showrunners.

The Scott Pilgrim anime series would also see involvement of the band members from Edgar Wright‘s 2010 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World live-action film. Wright himself would be an executive producer on the series with collaborator Nira Park. Other executive producers would include Marc Platt Productions’ Marc Platt, Jared LeBoff, and Adam Seigel as well as Michael Bacall.

The Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series ran from 2004 to 2010. Lee O’Malley noted in an interview with Anime News Network that the series was “sort of shonen manga inspired.” Aside from the live-action movie, the series also inspired Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, which received a remaster in 2020.
