#The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Delayed to April 2022

The official website and Twitter account for The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 announced that the anime has been postponed until April 2022. It was originally scheduled for October 2021. The statement cited “various reasons” for the delay. 

Crunchyroll announced that it will be hosting various voice actors from the series during its Virtual Crunchyroll Expo scheduled for August 5. 

The anime’s staff includes Masato Jinbo (Chaos;Child) as director, Keigo Koyanagi (Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars) as series composer, Masahiro Suwa (Chaika the Coffin Princess) as character designer, and Kevin Penkin (Tower of God) as composer. The animation production will be from Kinema Citrus and DR MOVIE. 

The Rising of the Shield Hero anime is an adaptation based on the light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi. The anime premiered in January 2019 and ran for 25 episodes.

Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan and describes its story as:

Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
