#Original Anime Film Hula Fulla Dance Postponed

The official website and Twitter account for Aniplex’s original anime film Hula Fulla Dance announced that the film, which was initially set to premiere this summer, has been postponed “due to various reasons”. The film’s future release date will be announced once decided. A new visual was also revealed.

The anime’s main cast includes Haruka Fukuhara as Hiwa Natsunagi, Dean Fujioka as Ryōta Suzukake, and Yuki Yamada as Kazuto Taira.

The main staff includes Shinya Watada (Gundam Build Divers) as director, Seiji Mizushima (Fullmetal Alchemist) as supervising director, Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Violet Evergarden) as scriptwriter, Hiroko Yaguchi (Aikatsu!) as character designer, and Michiru Oshima (Fullmetal Alchemist, Bloom Into You) as music composer. The animation production will be from Bandai Namco Pictures. 

Kaori Hino (Kill la Kill) serves as the art director, Masumi Ootsuka (Soul Eater) as the color designer, Youichi Oogami (Inuyasha) as the director of photography, Eriko Kimura (DEVILMAN crybaby) as the audio director, and Kumiko Sakamoto (My Hero Academia) as the editor. 

Hula Fulla Dance was first announced in November 2020 with a teaser trailer and poster. Additionally, the March issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine revealed that the film will also have a manga adaptation, with additional details yet to be revealed.

Anime News Network describes Hula Fulla Dance’s story as:

The film’s story centers on Hiwa Natsunagi (played by Haruka Fukuhara), a novice at hula dancing who nevertheless takes a job as a hula dancer at the real life Spa Resort Hawaiians hotel. The film shows the relationships between her and her colleagues. The same hotel in Iwaki city, Fukushima was also the setting for the popular 2006 film Hula Girls. Iwaki is also the setting for Gaina’s Hulaing Babies anime, which is similarly centered on hula dancing.
