“Maverick at Japan Box Office”

Makoto Shinkai‘s Suzume has made 13.59 billion yen (~US$103 million) in Japan as of February 12, replacing Top Gun: Maverick (which made 13.57 billion yen) as the country’s 17th top-grossing film in the process.

Suzume, which premiered on November 11, took the fourth place in the February 10-12 weekend top 10 chart. Dominating the ranking was the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village-, which earned 571 million yen (~US$4.32 million) and drew in 402 thousand moviegoers during the weekend period. The Demon Slayer compilation film, which premiered on February 3 and made one billion yen in its first three days, has now grossed over two billion yen (~US$15.16 million) in total.

Meanwhile, The First Slam Dunk took the second spot on the weekend chart. It has earned 10.38 billion yen (~US$78.72 million) in total since its December 3 premiere, making it the 38th top-grossing movie in Japan.
