#Earthquake hits Southern California amid Tropical Storm Hilary

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California’s Ventura County on Sunday as Tropical Storm Hilary worsens in the area.

The initial quake hit the Ojai region around 2:41 p.m. A series of aftershocks then affected Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, with the largest shocks measuring in the 3.0 magnitude range, according to KABC-TV.

The Ojai region hasn’t seen an earthquake of 5 magnitude or above since 1932,  seismologist Lucy Jones noted while appearing on the network.

Several residents of the affected areas received emergency phone notifications in the aftermath of the seismic activity that read, “Earthquake Detected! Drop, Cover, Hold On. Protect Yourself.” No notable damage has yet been reported as a result of the quake.

The quake occurred as Southern California is experiencing Tropical Storm Hilary, with officials warning the worst of the storm is “yet to come.”

Los Angeles and Las Vegas have been placed under a State of Emergency as a result of the storm.
