#Daytime Emmys: ‘General Hospital,’ ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Among Top Winners

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the winners of the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards during an in-person ceremony, hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner (whose show won the prize for best entertainment news series), that aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.

ABC’s General Hospital led with six wins, including for best daytime drama series.

The Kelly Clarkson Show won its second consecutive Daytime Emmy for best daytime talk series, as did Clarkson for best daytime talk series host.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to air June 17, but was postponed due to the Writers Guild strike. During the event, NATAS chairman Terry Reilly noted that it was the first major awards show since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes ended in September and November, respectively.

The show opened with a tribute to General Hospital star Sonya Eddy, who died in December. Eddy also won a posthumous Daytime Emmy for best supporting actress. The ceremony also paid tribute to Daytime Emmy-winning General Hospital star Tyler Christopher, who died in October.

In addition to Eddy, three performers from General Hospital picked up acting prizes: Robert Gossett (supporting actor), Eden McCoy (younger performer) and Alley Mills (guest performer). The Bold and the Beautiful‘s Thorsten Kaye and Jacqueline MacInnes won the Daytime Emmys for best actor and actress, respectively.

The ceremony, held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles, also saw Susan Lucci receive a lifetime achievement award for her legendary role as Erica Kane on ABC’s All My Children, a part she played from 1970 until the drama’s cancellation in 2011. Infamously, Lucci received 21 Daytime Emmy nominations for lead actress in a daytime drama, winning once in 1999 after her 19th nomination.

The winners of the Creative Arts Daytime Emmys will be revealed on Dec. 16.
