#Date A Live V Will Premiere on “Tohka Day”

April 10 has been announced as the premiere date for Date A Live V. The Japanese word for the 10th day of a month is “tohka,” and so the official announcement notes that the anime will be beginning on “Tohka [Yatogami] Day.”

Date A Live is based on the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko light novel series written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. This fifth season will introduce the character of Mio Takamiya as well as the mega-corporation DEM Industry, which seeks the power of Spirits.

The light novels started in 2011 and includes numerous mainline entries, spin-offs, and short story anthologies. There are 22 main volumes as of 2020 and 11 anthologies as of 2022.

Yen Press describes the first volume as:

April 10. The first day of school. Shido Itsuka is rudely awoken by his personal alarm clock—his little sister. It’s shaping up to be another typical day…well, as typical as it gets on a planet plagued by massive spatial quakes. Little does Shido know, however, his life is about to take a sudden turn when he encounters the source of this destructive phenomenon—a girl his age, apparently known as a Spirit. Turns out, there are only two ways he can stop her from unleashing hell on the world: Eliminate her by force or placate her…by taking her out on a date and making her fall in love with him!

The anime’s previous seasons premiered in 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2022. The first three were directed by Keitarou Motonaga at AIC PLUS+ (Season 1), Production IMS (Season 2), and J.C.STAFF (Season 3). There is also a 2015 Date A Live anime movie and a 2020 two-part OVA adaptation of the Date A Bullet spin-off.

Aside from the light novels and anime, the franchise includes various manga and video games.
