A 29-year-old man in Harris County, Texas, was arrested and charged with murder Wednesday after a woman he allegedly brought to Houston to work as a prostitute was struck and killed by a car while she tried to escape.

Deandros Finks was charged following the death of the 23-year-old woman, whose body was found on the road in the early morning hours last Sunday.

Investigators said they obtained surveillance footage of the woman leaving with a suitcase from a rented room where Finks was staying in Houston’s Afton Oaks neighborhood.

“You can tell she is running for her life,” Sean Teare, the chief of the Harris County District Attorney’s vehicular crimes unit, told KHOU. “He is chasing her literally across 610.”

Finks allegedly brought the woman to Houston from Las Vegas after the coronavirus pandemic closed casinos, KPRC-TV reported. Teare said the surveillance footage showed Finks arguing with the woman and trying to force her to reenter the rented room shortly before her death.

Finks originally told investigators that the woman was drunk at the time of the crash and got dropped off on the wrong side of the road.

Later, he said the woman was a prostitute who was dropped off by a john.

Teare said investigators were considering charging Finks with human-trafficking.
