The upcoming Ya Boy Kongming! anime has released a “music video-like” trailer featuring songs from the characters KABEtaijin, Nanami Kuon, and main heroine Eiko Tsukimi playing over scenes from the show. 

The trailer starts with a rap performance by KABEtaijin and later switches to a rock song by Nanami. Meanwhile, the last third switches to a dance tune by Eiko.

The trailer’s release comes on the same date that the artist Lezel was announced to be Nanami’s singing voice.

Ya Boy Kongming! is set to premiere in Japan on April 5, with an advance release on ABEMA on March 31. It is based on the manga series by Yuuto Yotsuba and Ryou Ogawa, which began serialization in 2019 and has eight tankoubon volumes as of January 2022. The manga is serialized in Kodansha’s Comic Days app/website and Weekly Young Magazine, and published under the Young Magazine Comics label. The main character, Zhuge Kongming, is based on the real life Chinese military statesmen and strategist of the same name, who was active during the Three Kingdoms era. 

BOOK WALKER describes the manga series as: 

General of the Three Kingdoms, Kongming had struggled his whole life, facing countless battles that made him into the accomplished strategist he was. So on his deathbed, he wished only to be reborn into a peaceful world…and was sent straight to modern-day party-central, Tokyo! Can even a brilliant strategist like Kongming adapt to the wild beats and even wilder party people?!

Osamu Honma (The Aquatope on White Sand episode director) is the director of the series, with Yoko Yonaiyama (Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 2 scriptwriter) serving as series composer, and Kanami Sekiguchi (SHIROBAKO the Movie) as character designer. Other staff involved in the project include Junichi Higashi (Fairy Gone) as art director, Asami Eguchi (The Aquatope on White Sand) as color designer, Tomita Yoshimitsu (The Day I Became a God) as photography director, and Genki Hikota as music composer. P.A Works is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Ryoutarou Okiayu as Zhuge Liang Kongming. Kaede Hondo and 96Neko (singing voice) as Eiko Tsukimi, Shouya Chiba as KABEtaijin, Hibiku Yamamura as Nanami Kuon, and Jun Fukushima as Owner Kobayashi.
