Weekly Shonen Jump Launches Otr of the Flame Manga Series from The Hunters Guild: Red Hood Creator

Weekly Shonen Jump has launched a new manga series titled Otr of the Flame from The Hunters Guild: Red Hood creator Yuki Kawaguchi. The manga debuted in Japan in the magazine’s 24th issue this year on May 12, 2025. 

The series is currently being simulpublished on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service, the Shonen Jump app, and on VIZ Media’s Shonen Jump library. The first chapter is also available to read for free, as of the time of writing. 

Dan Luffey is handling the manga’s English translation and Sabrina Heep is working on its lettering.

MANGA Plus describes the main synopsis of Otr of the Flame as: 

The world is encased in winter due to the advances of the Ice Kingdom. Kind-hearted Otr, who dreams of being a warrior like his dad, has been entrusted with keeping the fires burning as a cook in the fortress. But when the fortress is attacked by the demonic army of the Ice Kingdom, the people and the flame are in danger of being snuffed out. Can Otr awaken a power that can turn the tide? A hero’s journey of fire and ice now begins!

Kawaguchi’s first series, The Hunters Guild: Red Hood, ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from June 28, 2021 to November 8, 2021 after debuting as a one-shot on September 19, 2020. A total of three volumes were released during its publication. It was released digitally in English on MANGA Plus, while VIZ printed the series in physical format.
