This McDonald’s burger is so old, it’s a millennial in human years.

A TikTok user posted a video answering the question of how McDonald’s food ages. In the clip, user @aly.sherb films an older woman removing a shoebox time capsule labeled “hamburger” from her closet, and then revealing its contents: A burger and fries which have been stashed away since 1996.

“What happens you leave a McDonalds hamburger in a bag for over 20 years?” reads text over the clip, which has racked up over 508,000 likes and almost 12,000 comments.

“So you want to see my hamburger? It lives in a box in my closet,” the woman in the clip says, opening the sack and introducing its contents. The food is in the original packaging it came in, and the woman uses the 1996 NASCAR race advertisement on the hamburger sack to date the meal to being 24 years old.

Despite its advanced fast-food age — the well-preserved meal looks well under a year old. Some might even say it still looks edible.

“The French fries look like they maybe could’ve fallen under your seat a month or so ago but they never rotted or decayed,” the woman says, pouring a few out of their bag into her hand.

“The hamburger itself, the bread has never molded, the meat has never rotted, it’s never even broken, it’s completely intact,” she says, examining the bun and patty, adding with a face, “not sure what would happen if you ate it though.”

This isn’t the first time McDonald’s meals have been stowed away for years, only to be unearthed in disturbingly good-looking condition.

One McDonald’s super-fan kept a burger and fries from the chain in a glass cabinet for a decade, to find out for himself if it was true the food wouldn’t decompose. Exactly 10 years after making his purchase, he checked in on it and found that it was true: The meal barely looked any older.
