#ODDTAXI Completes Blu-Ray Crowdfund Campaign with 6,000 Copies

The ODDTAXI Blu-ray Project announced that it completed its Blu-ray box set campaign with over double the original maximum goal. Initially, there was no plan for a Blu-ray release, but in response to viewer support of the show, a kickstarter-like campaign was launched by Pony Canyon with incremental bonus content unlocked at various stretch goals. The campaign achieved its minimum goal of 300 sets within a day of launch, and by the end of the preorder window, over 6,000 sets had been ordered. Bonus content includes things like an art book, a soundtrack “outtake” CD with songs that didn’t make it into the show, an Odokawa figure, and staff commentary tracks.

ODDTAXI is an original anime written by Kazuya Konomoto of “Setoutsumi,” with music by PUNPEE, VaVa, and OMSB. In addition to casting established voice actors, the series features many acting comedians such as Miki Diane.

At the end of the campaign, director Baku Kinoshita commented,

“Thanks to all of you, we have now surpassed 6000 sets. 6000 sets, I still can’t believe it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who pre-ordered. We will make a wonderful Blu-ray Box full of charm. Please look forward to receiving it!”

Pony Canyon describes ODDTAXI as:

Sir, where are you going?

It’s a familiar town, but there’s something a little different about this town. Odokawa is a cab driver who leads an ordinary life. He has no relatives, doesn’ get involved with many people, and is a bit eccentric and quiet. His hobbies are listening to ”Rakugo” before going to bed and listening to the radio while working. The only friends he has are his family doctor, Goriki, and his classmate from high school, Kakihana. The only customers he brings in are somewhat peculiar. Kabasawa, a college student who can’t wait to be buzzed about, Shirakawa, a nurse who is hiding something, Homosapiens, a comedian duo who is not selling well, Dobu, a street thug, and Mystery Kiss, an idol who is on the market. The conversations of these supposedly ordinary people eventually lead to a girl who has disappeared.

ODDTAXI is currently available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and on Crunchyroll outside of Japan.

The Blu-ray sets are scheduled to arrive in the hands of fans in March 2022. In the meantime, Japanese fans of the show can look forward to an upcoming collaboration cafe later this month in Umeda, Osaka.
