The last year in the career of English deviantronica artist Shygirl has included the EP Alias and “BDE,” a deranged sex anthem featuring slowthai. Today, she’s showing her softer side with “Cleo,” a new track and music video.
Still, it doesn’t lack for ambition: When I first heard the song, the sweeping orchestral intro prepared me for something close to late ’90s-era Björk. What follows is something more original, a pulsing house music track that revels in being the subject of a deep infatuation. In the music video, Shygirl looks every bit the movie star she’s crooning of being, with a heavy cyberpunk twist. Watch the video above, and check out her upcoming UK/EU tour dates below.
