Vice President Kamala Harris pounded the pavement for Pride in Washington, DC, on Saturday.

The VP made a brief surprise appearance at the Capital Pride Walk and Rally Saturday, wearing a pink blazer and “love is love” shirt, according to local outlet NBC 4.

Harris was joined by husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who donned a shirt with rainbow lettering. The couple marched with the crowd toward a Capital Pride rally for about a block, the local station said.

“We need to make sure that our transgender community and our youth are all protected. We need, still, protections around employment and housing,” Harris said, in a brief remark touting the Equality Act. “There is so much more work to do, and I know we are committed.”

President Biden earlier this month issued a proclamation in recognition of the nationwide Pride events.

“During LGBTQ+ Pride Month, we recognize the resilience and determination of the many individuals who are fighting to live freely and authentically,” the proclamation read.

“In doing so, they are opening hearts and minds, and laying the foundation for a more just and equitable America.”
