#Upper West Side is too white and Jewish: City Council candidate manager

The campaign manager for an Upper West Side candidate for the City Council is in hot water for saying the neighborhood is too white — and Jewish.

Quinn Mootz, who is running Sara Lind’s council bid, is catching flak for her April 13 comments on Twitter, which have since been deleted — but not before critics took screen grabs.

“Jews are not POC [People of Color] for just being jewish. sorry,” Mootz tweeted, using the handle “Quinn Mootz says Hot Girls Hate The Filibuster.”

Mootz also tweeted, “As of 2018: 10.8% of the population is Asian, 4.1% black, 14.1% hispanic, and 68.4% white. So yeah ima go ahead and say the UWS has a diversity problem.”

“Of your 191,000 residents…. 130,795 are white,” she said.

Mootz also also lambasted “sh–ty people” who refer to “homeless people as zombies and think anyone to the left of you is too woke. You f–king moron.”

Neighborhood critics slammed Mootz — who happens to be white and Jewish — for what they saw as a swipe at Jews.

Her remarks also drew unfavorable coverage in the Jewish Press.

Upper West Side resident Steven Dzik said, “I have to assume the campaign manager’s views reflect the candidate’s. Mootz’s comment shows contempt for the residents of the neighborhood she hopes to represent.”

“The Upper West Side is not simply predominately white. More than half the white people are Jewish. Jews have been a separate people for a millennia. To simply group Jews as white people comprising one undifferentiated homogenous group is bigoted and is engaging in simplistic stereotyping,” added Dzik.

A spokeswoman for the Lind campaign defended Mootz.

“Our campaign manager happens to be Jewish. She finds these attacks to be very hurtful,” said Lind campaign rep Jordan Jayson.

“The comments are being taken out of context to be used against Quinn. They’re liars.”

But the spokesperson said the Lind campaign “does not condone the profanities” used by Mootz on twitter.

The Lind campaign also campaign countered by showing tweets from trolls likening Mootz to “Hitler” and another referring to candidate Lind and Mootz as “two stupid c—s.”

Lind said she is no longer on Twitter because of the nasty responses to her campaign manager’s inflammatory remarks.

“Our campaign is officially off Twitter. We’ve been trolled relentlessly with slurs, sexual assault and death threats, and anonymous cowards spreading misinformation,” said Lind.

Lind is running to replace the term-limited Councilman Helen Rosenthal in District 6 in the June 22 Democratic primary. Other candidates include term-limited Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, who previously served in the council; Jeffrey Omura, Zach Weiner and David Gold.
