#Trump tweets Barr’s warning of impending mail-in voter fraud

President Trump on Monday echoed Attorney General William Barr’s warning that allowing voting by mail in November’s presidential election would lead to rampant fraud and result in a rigged election.

“Barr: Mail-in Ballots ‘Absolutely Opens the Floodgates to Fraud‘ … via @BreitbartNews. This will be the Election disaster of our time. Mail-In Ballots will lead to a RIGGED ELECTION!,” Trump said in one of two posts on the issue.

In the other, Trump expressed his view in an all-caps tweet.

“RIGGED 2020 ELECTION: MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES, AND OTHERS. IT WILL BE THE SCANDAL OF OUR TIMES!,” the president wrote.

Barr made the comments in an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” as he and host Maria Bartiromo spoke about claims that tech companies like Twitter and Google were censoring conservative voices on social media sites.

The attorney general said censorship worried him, especially in an election year when there are deep divisions in the country.

“The thing we have going for us – especially when there’s intense division in the country – is that we have peaceful transfers of power and the way of solving it is to have an election,” Barr told Bartiromo. “But when governments, state governments, start adopting these practices like mail-in ballots that open the floodgates of potential fraud, then people’s confidence in the outcome of the election is going to be undermined.”

Last month, Twitter added fact-check labels to Trump tweets that claimed mail-in ballots would lead to voter fraud.

“Get the facts about mail-in ballots,” the label on the tweets states, and redirects users to news articles disputing that voting by mail would allow for fraud.

Trump lashed out at Twitter for checking his tweets.

“So ridiculous to see Twitter trying to make the case that Mail-In Ballots are not subject to FRAUD,” Trump tweeted. “How stupid, there are examples, & cases, all over the place. Our election process will become badly tainted & a laughingstock all over the World.”
