#Trump says NRA should ‘move to Texas’ in response to Letitia James suit

President Trump said Thursday that the National Rifle Association should “move to Texas” in response to a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“That’s a very terrible thing that just happened. I think the NRA should move to Texas and lead a very good and beautiful life,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The NRA’s national headquarters are just outside Washington in Fairfax, Virginia.

James, a Democrat, alleges the gun rights group’s executive vice president Wayne LaPierre and other officials broke state and federal laws by mismanaging the organization’s funds, contributing to a three-year loss of $64 million.

But Trump pinned the NRA’s financial woes on the cost of defending itself from litigation.

“This has been going on for a long time,” Trump said. “They’ve been absolutely decimated by the cost of that lawsuit. And it’s very sad, but I would suggest that that’s what they should be doing.”

Although the NRA is widely reviled by Democrats who support gun control, it has recently faced a growing rivalry with more vehement gun-rights organizations such as Gun Owners of America, which claims more than 1.5 million members and recently opposed a ban on bump stocks.
