#Trump says de Blasio has been ‘horrible’ for NYC and city is ‘going bad’

President Trump on Tuesday night attacked Mayor Bill de Blasio for doing a “horrible” job handling New York City during the pandemic.

Trump said during an interview on “Hannity” that the city was “going bad” as he marveled at its most recent primary elections getting swept by a wave of progressive Democrats.

“The people that are winning these races for the Democrats — Eliot Engel, he was staple many, many years … from a very nice part of the world that’s going bad on us: New York,” Trump said, referring to the long-time Bronx rep’s shocking loss this past primary election to Jamaal Bowman, a political newcomer and former school principal.

Engel, a 16-term Democratic congressman, suffered the loss after being caught on a hot mic saying if not for his election, he generally wouldn’t care about speaking at a Bronx event focusing on the civil unrest over the police killing of George Floyd.

Bowman at the time of his victory said the win was achieved by “building coalitions across race, across class, across religion, across age, across our beautiful differences, leveraging our beautiful differences, to make the world a better place.”

Trump went on to comment on the uptick in shootings in New York, which have followed soaring unemployment rates of above 20 percent and a threat of a massive surge in rental evictions stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I left [New York City], it was four years ago; it was a wonderful place. You could see signs of badness but it was a wonderful place,” Trump said.

“What’s happening in New York is so horrible for our country. What they’ve done — what Mayor de Blasio has done to that city in a short period of time is horrible,” Trump said.

Trump during his interview continued to attack California Sen. Kamala Harris, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s newly minted running mate, as well as mail-in voting.

The president cited ballot-counting problems surrounding another New York congressional primary race involving Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who last week declared victory six weeks after her election.

“You’ll never know who won the election, just like in New York. They had an election with Carolyn Maloney, a third-rate congresswoman that I’ve known for a long time … well, she won, but they have no idea where the ballots are … her opponent is having a fit.”

Though the issue in that election is not “missing” ballots, as Trump claimed on Hannity. And Maloney’s opponent, Suraj Patel, has attempted to distance himself from charges that he’s using Trump-like criticism over the results.

Patel had claimed more than 12,000 mail-in votes were disqualified over issues with ballots, including lack of postcards.

“We’ve said it from the beginning: our election had issues, but they were not the ones of voter fraud, as Donald Trump baselessly claimed from the White House podium today,” Patel said in a statement issued last week. “Our election was strife with systemic voter disenfranchisement.”
