Trump says Biden, ‘radical’ Democrats want to ‘defund the police’

President Trump contrasted his stand with that of political rival Joe Biden’s during the nationwide protests following George Floyd’s death while in Minneapolis police custody, saying he is for “LAW & ORDER” while claiming the former vice president wants to ‘DEFUND THE POLICE.”

“Sleepy Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats want to ‘DEFUND THE POLICE’. I want great and well paid LAW ENFORCEMENT. I want LAW & ORDER!,” the president tweeted on Sunday.

Biden has called for creating a national police oversight commission in the first days of his administration if he is elected in November.

He has also called for police departments across the country to review hiring and training policies to weed out bad cops.

“Most cops meet the highest standards of their profession. All the more reason that bad cops should be dealt with severely and swiftly. We all need to take a hard look at the culture that allows for these senseless tragedies to keep happening,” Biden said during a speech last week in Philadelphia.

Brian Fallon, former national spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, posted “defund the police” on Twitter last week.

Calls to “defund the police” have grown since Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25.

Derek Chauvin, who pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Trump has repeatedly declared a need for “law and order” to rein in the protesters and the demonstrations that on occasion have turned violent with looting, arson and attacks on police.

“You have to dominate the streets, you can’t let what’s happening happen,” Trump said at the White House last Friday. “It’s called dominate the streets. You can’t let that happen in New York where they’re breaking into stores and all of the things. And by the way, hurting many small businesses — you can’t let it happen.”
