President Trump pressed on warning about widespread fraud in mail-in voting but said that “absentee ballots are fine.”

“A person has to go through a process to get and use them,” the president said in a tweet late Sunday. “Mail-In Voting, on the other hand, will lead to the most corrupt Election is USA history. Bad things happen with Mail-Ins.”

He added: “Just look at Special Election in Patterson, N.J. 19% of Ballots a FRAUD!”

In Paterson’s City Council election, a total of 3,190 mail-in ballots – about 19 percent of the tally – were disqualified in May, according to NorthJersey.com.

The election was conducted entirely through mail-in ballots because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Passaic County government spokesman Keith Furlong said the ballots were disqualified because of the election board’s annual practice of checking signatures against those on file for voters.

Trump also railed against mail-in ballots last week, when he tweeted that “because of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, 2020 will be the most RIGGED Election in our nations [sic] history – unless this stupidity is ended.”

He added: “We voted during World War One & World War Two with no problem, but now they are using Covid in order to cheat by using Mail-Ins!”

The president also echoed Attorney General William Barr’s warning that allowing voting by mail in November would lead to rampant fraud and result in a rigged election.

“Barr: Mail-in Ballots ‘Absolutely Opens the Floodgates to Fraud‘ … via @BreitbartNews. This will be the Election disaster of our time. Mail-In Ballots will lead to a RIGGED ELECTION!” he said.

“RIGGED 2020 ELECTION: MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES, AND OTHERS. IT WILL BE THE SCANDAL OF OUR TIMES!” the president wrote in another tweet.

Many states have tried to expand absentee and mail-in voting for the presidential election as health experts predict a possible second round of the pandemic and amid fears of low voter turnout because of social distancing guidelines.
