#TP-Link’s New Wi-Fi 6 Router Isolates Bandwidth for Your Gaming Rig – Review Geek

We first saw the TP-Link Archer GX90 Wi-Fi 6 gaming router at CES 2020, and after waiting for over a year, it’s finally available to purchase. It’s an exciting option at just $250, offering dedicated gaming features and mesh Wi-Fi support, plus notable improvements over the company’s previous C5400X router and specs that usually cost upward of $300.

The GX90 features three distinct bands for combined networking speeds of 6,579 Mbps. A slow-but-wide-range 2.4Ghz band reaches max speeds of 574 Mbps, while a 5Ghz band reaches 1,201 Mbps.

Most notably, there’s a dedicated 5Ghz band using 4T4R and HE160 technology to reach 4,804 Mbps. This gaming band is isolated to ensure zero interference from non-gaming devices on your network, and as we saw in TP-Link’s Archer C5400X router, it’s an effective solution for gamers fighting for bandwidth in a crowded home.

TP-Link crammed some extra gaming features in the GX90, including game accelerating technology that detects and optimizes gaming streams to cut down on latency. A statistics dashboard also provides a real-time overview of in-game networking performance, allowing you to perfect your wireless setup.

The GX90 probably covers a very wide range, though TP-Link hasn’t specified its maximum square footage (we’re waiting for the company to email back some details). Still, it’s worth mentioning that the GX90 supports TP-Link’s OneMesh system, so you can pair it with the company’s speedy Wi-Fi 6 range extenders.

Don’t care for wireless internet? The GX90 has a lightning-fast 2.5Gbps LAN port for wired connections. There are also two 1Gbps LAN ports, one USB 3.0 port, and a USB 2.0 port for network-attached storage or accessories.

The TP-Link Archer GX90 is available now at Amazon, Newegg, and other retailers. It costs $250, though for whatever reason, retailers are currently charging over $300 for the router (high demand may be a factor here). I suggest waiting for the GX90 to reach its $250 retail price, which is incredibly competitive when compared to devices like the $350 Netgear Nighthawk AX8.
