“Touken Ranbu – Hanamaru – Setsugetsuka Reveals Official PV Trailer”

Toho has released a new official PV trailer of Touken Ranbu – Hanamaru – Setsugetsuka on its YouTube channel. The new trailer showcases many of the anime film’s characters and a general outline of the story.

This will be the first film in an upcoming trilogy that will begin screening in Japanese theaters on May 20, 2022. Part two will follow on July 8, 2022 and part three on September 1, 2022. The franchise is most well-known for featuring a large cast of male seiyuu.

The new film trilogy is based on the 2016 Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru anime series. A second season of the anime aired in 2018, with Crunchyroll and Funimation licensing both for North America. A compilation film premiered in theaters on December 1, 2022.

The anime itself is based on a free-to-play collectible card online game developed by Nitroplus and DMM Games. It also inspired a separate anime adaptation in 2017 titled Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, which had Ufotable handle animation production.

Funimation describes the series as:

In the year 2205, the past is threatened by the historical revisionists who seek to change it. Protecting history becomes the task of a boisterous band of swords that are brought to life, including the glamorous Kashuu Kiyomitsu and the kindly Yamatonokami Yasusada. Beyond their battles, these legendary swords from different eras lead charming daily lives.
