These Gundam Umbrellas Will Shield Fans from the Elements With Style

Have you ever wondered, “Why doesn’t my umbrella look like a shield from the Gundam series?” Well, someone evidently did, because five Gundam Shield foldable umbrellas have made their debut in Japan today, on April 25 JST.

Each of the five designs cost 6,930 yen with tax-included, or around US$48.25. Four are inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam — one is made to look like the RX-78-2’s shield — while the fifth is the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM Beam Shield Umbrella.

Of the OG series-inspired designs, aside from the RX-78-2 shield, the inspirations are the Gouf, the Zeon Earth Attack Force, and Char’s Zaku.

While most of the eye candy is on the umbrellas’ top surface, there are icons on the handles’ base and on the sleeves to provide them with some Gundam identity.

The Gundam Shield umbrellas are currently available on Premium Bandai Japan. Their dimensions are 92cm×126cm, while the materials are polyester for the fabric and fibreglass for the frame.
