Social-media platforms have become contentious in the war sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Twitter Inc. said its service was being limited in Russia and that it is trying to keep the social media site accessible to users.

said, without providing further details. “We believe people should have free and open access to the Internet, which is particularly important during times of crisis,” Twitter’s public policy account tweeted Saturday morning.

The Russian Embassy in Washington didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

YouTube said it is taking several actions against Russia in response to the war, including restricting access to RT, a Russian state-controlled television network, and other channels in Ukraine.

Social-media platforms have become contentious in the war sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Russia on Friday said it would begin restricting access to Facebook. Ukraine’s government on Thursday called for the Russian government to be blocked from Twitter. Twitter declined to comment on the tweet. As of Saturday morning, Russia’s Twitter account was still live.
