Former Vice President Joe Biden offered his and his wife’s condolences to President Trump on Sunday on the death of his younger brother Robert.

“Mr. President, Jill and I are sad to learn of your younger brother Robert’s passing. I know the tremendous pain of losing a loved one — and I know how important family is in moments like these. I hope you know that our prayers are with you all,” the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee posted on Twitter.

Robert Trump, 71, a top executive at the Trump Organization, died on Saturday.

The president traveled to New York on Friday to visit his brother in the hospital.

In a statement released by the White House, Trump noted the passing of his younger sibling.

“It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight,” the president said. “He was not just my brother, he was my best friend,” he went on.

“He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”

Biden, who was recently elected to his first Senate term in Delaware, lost his wife, Neilia, and infant daughter, Naomi, in a car crash in 1972 that injured their two sons, Hunter and Beau.

Beau, who became attorney general of Delaware, died of brain cancer in May 2015.
