Chalk up another major win for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Hollywood superstar has announced that he will be honored with the People’s Champion Award at the People’s Choice Awards in December. Ahead of the ceremony, Johnson celebrated the honor and said it was the most “special” of all 15 times he’s been nominated for a People’s Choice award.

In the caption, “Man this is unreal. Humbled and moved to receive the PEOPLE’S CHAMP AWARD from you, THE PEOPLE. I’ve been gratefully nominated 15X for @peopleschoice awards throughout my career ~ I can say this is the most special because of what it actually represents, which is an idea that will always be much bigger than me. Taking care of people. Love you guys and this award will be TRULY my honor to accept. On behalf of you! Lets have some fun.”

His philanthropic efforts and international social media presence has made him a cultural leader and inspiration to many, making him the perfect recipient for ‘The People’s Champion’ award this year.”

Hosted by Kenan Thompson, the 47th People’s Choice Awards will be held on Dec. 7. Along with the People’s Champion Award, The Rock is also nominated in several categories, so he would end up walking away with more awards at the event. For his role in Jungle Cruise, he’s nominated for both Comedy Movie Star of 2021 and Male Movie Star of 2021. The Rock is also nominated for Male TV Star of 2021 for playing himself in Young Rock as well as Comedy TV Star of 2021 for that same series. Young Rock itself has an additional nomination for Comedy Show of 2021. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson will also be up for Social Star of 2021.

Recently, The Rock co-starred with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in the new Netflix action movie Red Notice. While it was a very expensive feature to develop, in part due to its A-list cast, it has been a big hit for the streaming service. It was announced that Red Notice has set the record for the most-watched movie in Netflix history, a major milestone that could result in The Rock coming back for more. After celebrating the news online, the actor vaguely teased that there was “more to come.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has also teased his desire to be the next 007 after Daniel Craig retired from his run as James Bond. Johnson said how his grandfather previously played a character in the series and it’d be awesome for him to step into that franchise, but only if he can play James. He told Esquire, “I don’t want to be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”

The 47th People’s Choice Awards is set to take place on Dec. 7, 2021, broadcasting live on NBC and E!.
