The Quintessential Quintuplets Embraces Fantasy With Dungeon Crawler Spin-Off Gotoubun no Princess

September 18, 2025 JST will see the Japanese release of Gotoubun no Princess ~Gensou to Shinen to Mahou Gakuin, a spin-off The Quintessential Quintuplets game that transplants the romantic comedy’s characters into a “dokidoki dungeon RPG.” The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 (on the PS4, it will be a download-exclusive title).

Gotoubun no Princess ~Gensou to Shinen to Mahou Gakuin~ is set in a fantasy world where Futaro Uesugi and the Nakano quintuplets cross paths at a magic academy. According to the game’s announcement/overview video, the story begins with a wedding ceremony, where Futaro reminisces about his academy experiences. Similar to the regular story, Futaro ends up as a tutor to the Nakano sisters, although in this case, they are daughters of the country’s king.

The video also previews the first-person dungeon crawling, which will take the quintuplets into environments like caves and deserts, and other systems. Part of the gameplay loop involves combining materials you earn from quests to craft items like magic gems, which can be used to customize wands. There will apparently be over 100 quests, and the story is said to be similar in size to the previous The Quintessential Quintuplets console games.

The limited edition of Gotoubun no Princess ~Gensou to Shinen to Mahou Gakuen~ will include the game’s soundtrack on DVD-ROM, a 36-page special booklet, and a Blu-ray containing an original Seven Arcs-produced anime that’s inspired by the game. A special box edition will include the above items as well as acrylic stands, can badges, a mini-script, a mini-storyboard collection, an alternate jacket for the Blu-ray, and a sleeve case.

More details about the original animation and the game’s opening animation (which is also produced by Seven Arcs) will be revealed in the July 2025 issue of Megami Magazine (which will be out on May 30 JST).

Gotoubun no Princess ~Gensou to Shinen to Mahou Gakuin~ is the fourth made-for-console The Quintessential Quintuplets game. Like the others, it is developed by MAGES. 

The previous console games include The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer, The Quintessential Quintuplets: Five Memories Spent With You, and Gotoubun no Hanayome: Kanojo to Kawasu Itsutsu no Yakusoku. MAGES is also behind the Gotoubun no Hanayome: Goto Pazu Story games, which are console ports of the enish-developed mobile puzzle game Gotoubun no Hanayome: Itsutsugochan wa Puzzle o Gotoubun Dekinai.
