#The Patriots’ sidelines will feature a third Belichick this season

Another Belichick is getting a promotion with the Patriots this season.

After spending the last three years as a coaching assistant, Brian Belichick will be on the sidelines this season as the Patriots’ safeties coach, joining his dad Bill and brother Stephen, who is coaching the team’s outside linebackers.

“Stephen and Brian have grown up a lot and they have come a long way, especially when I have had the chance to see them their whole lives,” Bill Belichick told reporters Friday morning. “They have been around a lot of football. They have seen a lot of football. They have seen things done from a different perspective than other people, but in the end I don’t know anybody that knows our football program better than Stephen, who has been in it a little bit longer, but Brian as well, have just lived their whole life with this program. All the things that we do for all the different reasons and how it all ties together and so forth. They have a very good understanding of all the things involved and how it is all interwoven. That is valuable to me because they have a perspective of that.

“Look, we have a lot of good coaches on our staff, I am not saying that, our guys are very good coaches and very efficient and they do a great job. It is a little different to see it from the perspective that Brian has seen it from or Steve. They all help. They are all valuable. I am glad we have them.”

It marks the first time that Bill Belichick has had both of his sons on his staff as position coaches. His other child, Amanda, is the head coach of the women’s lacrosse team at Holy Cross.

Steve Belichick is in his ninth year with the Patriots. He was the secondary/safeties coach last season and the safeties coach for three years before that.

Brian Belichick joined the franchise in 2016 as a scouting assistant after graduating from Trinity College.

Bill Belichick, of course, is entering his 21st season as head coach of the Patriots.
