#The most un-Disney Disney songs ever, from ‘Cars’ to ‘Cruella’

#The most un-Disney Disney songs ever, from ‘Cars’ to ‘Cruella’

When you hear Florence + the Machine get gothy during the end credits of “Cruella” — the live-action prequel to the 1996 hit “101 Dalmations,” which opens Friday in theaters and on Disney+ with premier access — it’s clear that this is not your mother’s kind of Disney song.

In fact, it’s the furthest thing from beloved Disney tunes such as “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “A Whole New World” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

“Call Me Cruella” joins early punk-rock classics from Blondie (“One Way or Another”) and the Clash (“Should I Stay or Should I Go”), as well as the Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” in the new film starring the two Oscar-winning Emmas: Stone and Thompson.

And the song immediately ranks among the most un-Disney Disney songs of all time. Here are the Top 10 tunes that break the “Let It Go” mold.

When Florence Welch sings “A life lived in penance, it just seems a waste/And the devil has much better taste,” Mickey must be mortified.

Fall Out Boy, “Immortals”

The punk-rockers added some unexpected edge to the 2014 animated flick “Big Hero 6.”

The art-pop aesthetic of Wainwright was a big step up in sophistication for an animated movie such as 2007’s “Meet the Robinsons.”

The “Fireflies” act had a David Guetta-goes-Disney moment, giving an EDM infusion to 2012’s “Wreck-It Ralph.”

The Demi part, we get. But hearing DJ Khaled’s signature shout-out to himself on a Disney song — from 2018’s “A Wrinkle in Time” — is a real WTF twist.

Tevin Campbell & Rosie Gaines, “I 2 I”

Campbell and Gaines — both of whom contributed to Prince’s 1990 “Graffiti Bridge” soundtrack — brought some purple funk to this jittery ditty from 1995’s “A Goofy Movie.”

Miley Cyrus & John Travolta, “I Thought I Lost You”

Before former Disney princess Cyrus took “The Climb” for her “Hannah Montana” movie, she pulled an Olivia Newton-John and rocked out with Travolta on this unlikeliest of duets from 2008’s “Bolt.”

Sheryl Crow, “Real Gone”

Getting her guitar on, the “If It Makes You Happy” singer channeled Joan Jett on this driving rocker from 2006’s “Cars.”

Ne-Yo, “Never Knew I Needed”

The R&B crooner brought some grown-up soulfulness to this slow jam from 2009’s “The Princess and the Frog.”

Bill Lee, “Cruella De Vil”

Before there was “Call Me Cruella,” jazz pianist Lee put a torchy twist on the villainess for 1961’s “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”
