The Most Resilient Jobs During The Covid-19 Outbreak 

The outbreak of the coronavirus has redefined a lot of aspects of life for the majority of us, including our jobs. Covid-19 was an unexpected phenomenon that perhaps some saw coming but the majority of us didn’t. As such, the effects have left the populations of the world either unemployed or having to work from home. This is coupled with familiarizing ourselves to the new policies of social distancing and wearing masks when in public.

This Harvard Business Review article spells out how this advent has redefined jobs around the globe, including how changing the places we work affects how we work and what work we do. In any case, humans are resilient beings; we find that when an unknown circumstance arises in front of us, in dire situations, we can find a way to survive. As such, some of our jobs have been the same too—unaffected. Turns out, that even with the huge unemployment figures shown around the world, not all sectors have been hit as hard and some have come out even stronger.

We look at four jobs that fall under the latter category over the recent year.

Designer

Designers and design industries seem to be one of the pandemic-proof businesses at the moment. If they weren’t strong enough before, they sure are now. It has been more than seven months since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a ‘pandemic’. Since then there have been cutbacks in major industries amounting to over 200 million full-time workers, and counting.

Since then a number of sub-sectors such as wholesale and retail were affected, with over 480 million workers losing their jobs. Management, manufacturing, food, and accommodation industries saw an astounding 764 million total jobs being affected. However, there is no such number within any of the design or creative sectors.

Web Developer

The second in line for those who still kept their jobs are the web developers. Website designers and developers are some of the most flexible jobs on the planet, they can work from anywhere in the world if they’ve got their laptops and programs with them.  Web developers help businesses establish an online presence, and they create websites that are geared towards their audience—suffice to say, an indispensable job for any company.

These occupations are not new in any sense. They have been around for decades and have been getting stronger as the years go by, adding new and improved software and languages such as the ones on Career Karma. 

Data Scientist

If ever there was a more specialized role, it is this—a data scientist. There are many reasons why you should become one. If you think you are a problem solver, love numbers, and enjoy all the Techni-stuff, you may just like the idea of being an analytical scientist.

This is a part computer scientist and part mathematician profession and has not been affected by Covid-19 in any respect; it has been continually progressing through the months, with even more demand now than ever before. Google’s algorithms were probably created by one of these individuals. 

You should consider becoming a data scientist because it is a high paying career. It doesn’t involve speaking to too many people (if that’s your thing), people will revere you for your genius intellect (i.e. the ability to code), and it involves solving many different problems.

Data Analyst

Not entirely different from a data scientist, a data analyst deals primarily with gathering and retrieving material related to precise scenarios, they organize all the material involved to come to a final conclusion. Depending on the type of statistics they work with, the task will vary, so it could be a sales project or a social media one, for example.

Companies in nearly every industry have closed down, but this remains alive and well. Mainly because we need them, and especially in all the foremost segments, which include retail, healthcare, and even fast-food chains. If you want to know more about the needs of your users or consumers, hire a data analyst. If you want someone to develop a system that gathers data such as a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) or CMS (Content Management System), these are your guys.
