#The House of the Lost on the Cape Wins Best Animated Film at Mainichi Film Awards
The House of the Lost on the Cape has scored the Best Animated Film Award at the 76th Mainichi Film Awards.

In securing its win, The House of the Lost on the Cape, an adaptation of an award-winning novel by Sachiko Kashiwaba, beat out fellow anime movies like Sing a Bit of Harmony, Pompo: The Cinéphile, Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko, and the new Mamoru Hosoda title Belle. The film was directed by Shinya Kawatsura (Sagrada Reset, Kokoro Connect) with Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Violet Evergarden) as scriptwriter and David Production as the animation production studio.

Meanwhile, Pukkulapottas and Hours in the Forest secured the Noburou Oufuji Award, which recognizes animated works that are excellent and innovative. The experimental film is created by stop-motion animator Takeshi Yashiro and makes use of what its description calls “location time-lapse photography.”

Some of the other animated works nominated in the 76th Mainichi Film Awards include the stop-motion JUNK HEAD and the winner of the 45th Ottawa International Animation Festival’s Grand Prize for Short Animation, A Bite of Bone. There were 20 nominees in total.
