If you’re on the hunt for a new vehicle, you may find that showrooms are light on inventory.
Consumer demand for new cars is usually high, but automakers are struggling to build most popular models due largely to a global computer chip shortage.
Cox Automotive found that automakers had, on average, 44 days supply of vehicles in showrooms, a measurement based on the theoretical number of days it would take for inventories to be totally depleted based on current demand if no more vehicles were shipped from factories.

But some showrooms are comparatively flush with new cars. Here are the 10 automakers with the highest days supply:

That list is notable in part for its relative diversity. While most of the brands with big inventories sell luxury cars generally priced above the $39,633 average list price according to Cox Automotive, a few outliers might surprise. Jeep, Ram, and Volkswagen, in particular, have more new cars on dealer lots than similarly priced competitors.
Additionally, a few of those brands posted year-over-year sales gains that were well above average for the first three months of 2021 compared with 2020. Volvo’s sales were up nearly 40%, Buick saw a 35% bump, and Alfa Romeo was up by more than 25%.
