#Tesla’s global network outage disables mobile app functionality

Tesla owners around the world were dealing with a network outage on Wednesday which left them unable to control their cars via the Tesla app.

The electric automaker allows its customers to unlock their vehicles and control features like temperature via the app, but the technical troubles kneecapped the functionality. Drivers were still able to get into their vehicles with their keys and drive them normally.

Tesla blog Electrek reported that the network problems — which began around 11 a.m. EDT — also impacted the company’s ability to take orders and make deliveries.

Connectivity began to return after a half hour, but as of 12:30 p.m. some users on Twitter were still reporting issues.

Also on Wednesday, Tesla sued to stop the Trump administration from collecting tariffs on parts it imports from China, Bloomberg reported, and demanded a refund for tariffs it has already paid.

Tesla uses Chinese-made displays in the control panels of its Model 3 sedan, which are subject to a 25 percent tariff.

Shares of Tesla had been down as much as 5 percent before the outage due to the company’s underwhelming Battery Day presentation Tuesday night. They dipped even further into the red to trade down 8.8 percent Wednesday afternoon.
