#Teaser Trailer and Key Visual Released

The upcoming second season of Girlfriend, Girlfriend, which is set for an October premiere, has received a teaser trailer and a key visual. 

While the beach and swimsuit-themed visual solely features the romantic comedy’s main heroines Saki Saki, Nagisa Minase, Rika Hoshizaki, and Shino Kiryuu, the trailer includes unvoiced footage of male protagonist Naoya Mukai and new character Risa (Rika’s sister).

The first season of Girlfriend, Girlfriend premiered in July 2021 and ran for 12 episodes. The manga, which is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, began in March 2020 and has 15 tankoubon volumes as of April this year. Production of the first season was decided eight months after the manga began serialization. 

Kodansha Comics describes the story as:

Naoya just got a girlfriend, the gorgeous Saki-chan, and though their intensities often pit them against each other like ice and fire, they’re totally, uncontrollably in love with each other. He vows never to cheat…when out of the blue he receives another confession! Nagisa’s cute, sweet, and she’s made him lunch to boot! He knows he can’t cheat, but he can’t let a cutie like this get away…so he does the logical(?) thing: Asks Saki for permission to date them both! The confidence! The arrogance! The very gall! No matter the outcome, Naoya’s future will be lively!

SynergySP is the animation production company for the new season instead of Tezuka Production. Keiichirou Oochi is returning as series composer, while Takatoshi Suzuki (A Couple of Cuckoos episode director) and Shouko Hagiwara (A Couple of Cuckoos chief animation director) are taking over as director and character designer, respectively.

The returning cast includes Junya Enoki as Naoya, Ayane Sakura as Saki, Azumi Waki as Nagisa, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika, and Rie Takahashi as Shino. Aoi Koga is joining as Risa.
