The production team for the BanG Dream! franchise has revealed that BanG Dream! Morfonication will premiere this coming summer, on July 28 and 29. A teaser trailer and visual have been released ahead of the anime special’s premiere. The previously announced Morfonica original anime project will be a 2-episode anime spinoff that will air on back-to-back nights. 

The production staff for BanG Dream! Morfonication consists of Koudai Kakimoto (BanG Dream! season three) as chief director and Tomomi Umetsu (BanG Dream! FILM LIVE 2nd Stage) as director. Craft Egg is credited with original character design and story. Yuuka Hachimori (BanG Dream! Episode of Roselia) will be the sub-character designer. Noriyasu Agematsu (Visual Prison) and Junpei Fujita (Remake Our Life!) are the music producers. Satoki Iida (Ya Boy Kongming!) is the sound director. Sanzigen is the animation production company. 

Morfonica was first formed in 2020 as the fourth band in Bushiroad’s BanG Dream! franchise. The symphonic rock band consists of five first-year students from Tsukinomori Girls High School — a prestigious school for high-class girls. Mashiro Kurata (voiced by Amane Shindou) provides the band’s vocals, Touko Kirigaya (voiced by Hina Suguta) plays the guitar, Nanami Hiromachi (voiced by Yuuka Nishio) plays bass, Tsukushi Futaba (voiced by mika) plays the drums, and Rui Yashio (voiced by Ayasa) plays the violin. 

Bushiroad first launched the BanG Dream! multimedia project in January 2015. The first anime season premiered in January 2017, with the second and third seasons airing in January 2019 and January 2020. The series has also inspired a variety of live concert films, video games, and spin offs. Issen and Xebec handled animation production for season one, with Sanzigen taking over for season two and three. 

Sentai Filmworks has licensed all seasons and films in North America and streamed them on their HIDIVE service. They describe the third season of BanG Dream as: 

The girl-powered bands are gigging again. That means Poppin’Party and other fan favorites are set to return for an all new season of BanG Dream! Now that Kasumi and the rest of Poppin’Party are taking charge of their own show, the sky’s the limit for their rockin’ musical ambitions and dreams of stardom. But they’ll have to contend with other bands looking for their big break, and their friendship will be put to the ultimate test as they rock their way to the top of the charts!
