Evangelion fans in Japan can brave the cold weather (among other issues…) of January to be the first people in the world to see the upcoming Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time at midnight on January 22. 15 theaters in 5 cities across Japan will be showing the latest (and final) Evangelion anime as soon as the clock strikes 24:00 in the "World's Fastest Screening" of the film, with the IMAX theaters showing both the new film and the IMAX remaster of Evangelion: 3.33 (now named Evangelion: 3.333) back to back.

This announcement comes at a time when both the governors for Osaka and Tokyo have asked their residents to stay home at night to curb the spread of the coronavirus, while Prime Minister Suga breaks from medical groups, saying that another State of Emergency isn't needed in Japan as cases reach record levels across the board.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time opens in Japan on January 23.
