“#Katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA Anime Film Gets Dolby Cinema Screening in December”
Toho has confirmed that Katsuhiro Otomo's 1988 anime film AKIRA will be screened in the seven Dolby Cinema theaters in Japan from December 4, 2020. Dolby Cinema is a format that allows the audience to experience Dolby Vision, the latest HDR (high dynamic range) video technology, and Dolby Atomos, the stereophonic technology.
Based on Otomo's own manga of the same name, the film was released in Japan in July 1988 and continues to be internationally acclaimed as one of the masterpieces of Japanese animation.
For the screening, 4K scanned and remastered HDR visuals from the 35mm master positive film will be used. Deep details of bright light and dark areas that were dispersed or hidden in the traditional format will be clearly represented on the screen of Dolby Cinema. The audio has the same specifications as the digital remastered edition released in June of this year.
