Heroine Tenkorin Okakura, a high school girl in her pajamas, yells at the thunder god Raijin for barging into her bedroom in a scene from the upcoming Oshiete Hokusai! THE ANIMATION web anime.

The opening animation has been published for Oshiete Hokusai! THE ANIMATION (“Teach me, Hokusai! THE ANIMATION”), an upcoming short form web anime based on the manga by Naoto Iwakiri about an unmotivated young lady who takes lessons from famous Japanese painters such as Ogata Kōrin, Takahashi Yuichi, and Kanō Eitoku.

The opening animation (below) features the song “Tenkorin no Theme” (“Tenkorin’s Theme”), which is written and performed by CHAI.

The story of Oshiete Hokusai! THE ANIMATION follows Tenkorin Okakura, a high school girl who longs to be a great painter one day even though she lacks any motivation, talent, or study skills. One day, the thunder god Raijin from the famous “Wind God and Thunder God” Edo period folding screen painting appears before Tenkorin and offers to help her achieve her dreams of becoming an artist. By traveling through time and meeting famous figures in Japanese art history, can Tenkorin make her dreams come true?

A colorful key visual for Oshiete Hokusai! THE ANIMATION, featuring the main character, high school student Tenkorin Okakura, using her pencil to measure perspective for a drawing while surrounded by the thunder gods Fujin and Raijin as well as numerous famous painters from Japanese history.

Oshiete Hokusai! THE ANIMATION is directed by Naoto Iwakiri and features animation production by CoMix Wave Films. The series will stream in Japan on ABEMA and other online platforms beginning on March 07, 2021. The series will run for 10 episodes, with each episode being approximately 10 minutes in length.
