#Sumikko Gurashi 2nd Feature Film Slated for November 2021

The title of the second anime feature film inspired by Japanese stationery company San-X’s popular mascot character brand Sumikko Gurashi has been decided as Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Aoi Tsukiyo no Mahou no Ko (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: A Magical Child of the Blue Moonlit Night). And the film is officially set to be released in Japan in November 2021.

Sumikko Gurashi was created in 2012 and has become one of the most successful brands in the company. The 65-minute first film Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Tobidasu Ehon to Himitsu no Ko (Sumikko Gurashi The Movie: A Popping Picture Book and A Secret Child) was released in Japan on November 8, 2019, and became the top-grossing Japanese film of the weekend. Its total domestic box office gross was an impressive 1.45 billion yen (13 million USD), so expectations for the sequel have been very high.

The story of the second film begins on a blue moon night when a mysterious magic is cast on the town where Sumikko and her friends live. Takahiro Omori (Natsume Yujin-cho) is attached to direct on a screenplay by Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Girls und Pazner). Following the first film, Fanworks works on anime production.
