#Stranger Things 4 Sets New Opening Weekend Viewership Record at Netflix

“Stranger Things 4 Sets New Opening Weekend Viewership Record at Netflix”

Fans couldn’t get enough of Stranger Things over the weekend. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the fourth season of the popular and acclaimed horror series has set the new record for the best premiere for an English-language series on the streaming service. The record was previously held by Bridgerton season 2.

Per the report, Netflix has chalked up 286.79 million hours of viewership worldwide just from May 25-27, the new season’s opening weekend. Season 2 of Bridgerton had garnered 193 million hours when it premiered in March, which was also certainly impressive, but still nowhere close to the new numbers pulled in by Stranger Things 4. With that said, Bridgerton did become the most-watched English-language series on Netflix of all time within its first 28 days of release, amassing more than 656 million viewing hours. Stranger Things 4‘s opening weekend numbers alone are almost halfway to that point, and that doesn’t even factor in the remaining episodes of the season which will bow on July 1.

When we consider all shows on Netflix, Squid Game stands tall as the most-watched series of any language. It has been streamed with more than 1.65 billion viewership hours within its first 28 days of release. That’s followed by Money Heist at 792.23 million hours. The fourth season of Stranger Things arriving has also led to added viewership hours fo rthe previous seasons as fans revisited older episodes. Kate Bush’s song “Running Up the Hill” has also enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after it was featured in the series.

Stranger Things 4 Will Prepare Fans for the Final Season

Even with all of this popularity, the plan at Netflix is to start bringing the Stranger Things story to a close. It was previously announced that Netflix had renewed Stranger Things for a fifth and final season. That is certainly not due to a lack of popularity, but that the creators and Netflix feel that it’s time to give the series a proper conclusion. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be potential spinoffs to come that will help keep the franchise alive for longer. Potential spinoffs have been teased even if there is nothing official that is in the works just yet.

“We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it,” the Duffer Brothers, the creators of the series, recently explained. “We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”

Stranger Things 4 is now streaming on Netflix. The fifth and final season of the series does not yet have a release date, but let’s hope the wait is not quite as long.
